Natural Products, Yes, No, Maybe So.
So what’s the deal with natural products for skincare?
Natural ingredients are the latest trends that have been added to our favorite skincare products.
It seems like everything states that it's natural or contains natural ingredients.
But what does natural even mean?
According to the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology, natural is defined as an ingredient that is produced by nature or found in nature directly extracted from plants and animal products. However when looking for a true definition for natural products as related to skincare, The Food & Drug Administration, states…….. Nothing
Okay not really anything, but the FDA doesn’t have a real true legal definition of natural when mentioning personal care products.
*Ok that’s confusing?
They do however give criteria which states, natural skincare products should be “free from synthetics fragrances, dyes, parabens, sulfates, and phthalates; ingredients that are naturally sourced or botanical ingredients that have therapeutic effects”.
So what’s really good with this?
Natural products are where it’s at.
They're filled with Vitamins A, B, and E, which are known for their antioxidant properties.
A few are able to be created as:
- essential oils
-carrier oils
-butter (shea, cocoa, kokum, etc)
Hydrocolloids contribute to inhibiting the evaporation of moisture from the skin; prevents the skin from drying out
Proteins promote skin:
- strength
-plumpness
-elasticity
-wound healing
Terpenoids are responsible for producing scents. Scents are found in essential oils; these scents are known for their mood enhancements and improve sleep).
Bioactive compounds allow action in the body that:
-promotes good health
-skin elasticity
-slows down premature aging
- protects against UV radiation
To sum it all up, natural products are a trend that's here to stay. Sourced from mother nature, these ingredients are our greens, flowers, trees, and nuts that have shown time and time again how incredible they are to the body. So try out some natural products (like Royal Richness perhaps), and add them into your skincare routine today.
